I once had a friend, Spike, tell me about seeing a wolf break into a hen house and trying to persuade the hens from squawking for help by asking them, “Come on gals, can’t we be civil in our discourse about whether or not I should be able to eat you?”
Somehow that came to mind this morning while watching President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast calling for civility in our political debates, saying we need mutual respect while disagreeing on the means to achieve our shared goals.
What this brought to mind was:
Matthew McCabe, one of the three navy Seal officers charged by the Obama administration with assault regarding a busted lip on terrorist, Ahmed Hashim Abed;
Sgt. James Crowley, the policeman whom Obama prejudged prior to any evidence as being guilty of racial profiling when he arrested Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.;
Sarah Palin; Wall Street brokers; the auto industry; the insurance industry; the medical industry; the energy industry; the banking industry; gun manufacturers; the tea party movement; the town hall protestors; the right-to-life movement; the small business administration; parents rights groups; …just to name a few of those who have experienced Obama and Democrat “civility in discourse.”
